How to Tell if You Blew a Tire?

Spread the love

I like how all the advice that is out there is to not get scared or stay calm. It’s easy to say, but when you are in the situation, it’s hard to stay calm and not be scared. I would freak out, and I know this from experience of other incidences I have been a part of on the road. Freaking out is the first thing I do.

But it’s true. It is best to try to keep calm when in a scary situation, like a tire blowout, because you will be able to better judge and remedy the situation when you are not stressed out.

How do you know you blew a tire? And which one did you lose?

Good questions. If your steering wheel starts vibrating while your car is pulling you toward the left or the right, then you may have blown out one of your front tires, whereas, if your car is starting to wobble, it might be one of your rear tires.

Listen to your car and what it is trying to tell you. If you feel something is wrong, you should pull over and inspect. This is something I wish someone told me because I have driven many (many with a capital M) miles on flat tires twice in my life. Thank God it wasn’t a blowout, but flat tires are not fun either. You would think I would have learned from the first flat, but nope. They both felt extremely different and I had no idea until I got to my destination. Crazy I even made it.

In both of my situations, I ended up getting a flat on the front driver side tire. Lucky me! It didn’t help that I had a car that loved popping tires, but that’s a story for another day. The first incident I had I started to feel a tug towards the yellow line, but I thought nothing of it, and then when we arrived to our destination, I stepped out of the car and saw the front tire was just a puddle of rubber attached to the car. Thank God for roadside assistance because I have never changed a tire in my life, nor did I have a jack.

Listen to your car!

This is why it is extremely important that you pay attention and listen to what your car is trying to tell you. And to be on the safer side, check your tires before you even get in and drive away. You will be better off that way.
