Gas Saving Tips

Carpool! It’s the best way to save gas, but if that is not feasible for you (like for us, when you live in the middle of nowhere and have no choice but to drive yourself), then here are some actual tips on ways to save gas.

Gas is expensive and no one wants to have to pay for more than they need (me included). I love finding ways to use less gas and reduce the number of visits I have to make to the gas station. Trust me, I am happy if I only have to go to the gas station once a week (and I have a 3 hour round trip to and from work).

1. Coast to a stop

When approaching a stop sign or a red light, take your foot off the pedal and coast to a stop. It helps save way more gas than if you hit the gas and stopped last minute. And the same goes for when that light turns green, ease your way up to speed instead of slamming down on the accelerator to speed off.

am always amazed at how fast some drivers can get up to speed as soon as the light turns green. Here I am chugging along slowly letting my car get up to speed, and they are already gone. Oh well. More gas saved for me!

2. Wait to turn on your AC

In hot weather, drive with your windows down for a little bit before turning on the AC. By putting the windows down for a little bit in the beginning, it helps get the hot air out of the cabin and puts less strain on your AC, and it helps your car cool down faster. Give it a try next time you get in a hot car.

3. Check your air filter

Simply replacing the air filter can help you use gas more efficiently and it helps your car last longer. The best part? It is very inexpensive and easy to do yourself!

4. Use the recommended motor oil

Using the wrong oil can end up making your car work harder and burn more fuel, and you don’t want that. Not sure what oil to use? Check your owner’s manual. It has all the answers.

5. Check and replace the gas cap seal

A worn-out gas cap seal can increase the chance of oxygen getting into the tank, which can then lead to your car burning more gas. This part typically needs to be replaced every few years, and it is not that expensive. Don’t let such a small detail cost you more money.

Final Thoughts

Are you ready to save gas? Try incorporating these tips into your driving life and see the gas being saved. Well, not literally. But saving a little bit here and there will start to add up. And when you are unsure how to fix something or replace a part in your car, the owner’s manuals has all the answers specific to your car.

Comment below how often you have to fill up gas and share your tips below. Let’s help one another.
