Today we are going to talk about space… not the space around you, but the space outside of earth. Which, apparently, has a name: Outer Space. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
Outer space is a pretty fascinating place! We (at least the astronomers and space enthusiasts!) are constantly trying to explore more about the place surrounding our planetary home, Earth. We’ve now gotten to the point where people are sending rockets and cars (and who knows what else!) out into the unknown in our attempt to learn more… and make history of course. Because who launches a car into space for any reason other than to say they were the first do so? (…Tesla).
Recently, Virgin Galactic had their first successful launch since their failed attempt in 2014. And this wasn’t just any other rocket launch… they are trying to commercialize space flight! So all those long cherished dreams and bucket lists of setting foot into space (and the rest of your body, particularly your eyes… because you want to be able to see this) can finally come true!
That is if you have a spare $250,000 lying around in your “Weekend Excursion” pile… you know, pocket change. No problem.
With your $250,000 purchase today you will get…
- A spot on the waiting list until this flight is officialized
- To be one of 700 people that have bought tickets so far
- No overcrowding on the flight (there is a maximum capacity of 6)
- A orbital trip outside of Earth
- An amazing view of our home surrounded by infinite space
- A ride back to land with feelings of excitement, thrill, and massive amounts of consuming debt
So why wait?! Pre-order you ticket today for a chance to maybe go to outer space sometime in the future!!
For those of us whose piggy banks may not be so well fed, there are other options. As always, when there are a couple dollars to save, Amazon is there to save us! You heard it right, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has the Blue Origin. Their slogan is probably, “Go to space for a couple dollars less.” Or if you have Prime you could probably get a speedier flight, kind of like the fast pass at an amusement park. Why wait in line when you could go faster with Prime?
If you feet are destined to remain firmly planted on the ground, fear not! You can enjoy the makings of history (both exciting and a little strange) from right here. If rocket ships are not your style, how about cars? Specifically Teslas? Well, if so, you are in luck! SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company launched a Tesla Roadster into space in February of 2018. But fear not! He did not send it into the unknown unmanned. There is a driver mannequin named “Starman” who is manning this vessel. However, I’m not sure how skilled he is at driving because scientists believe that Starman and the Roadster will not make it far past Mars (because he will probably get homesick!) and will circle back around and either hit Earth or slam into Venus around 2091. (Maybe he had taken into drinking to drown his loneliness and that impaired Starman’s steering abilities that he might overshoot Earth and crash into the wrong planet).
Now that we know that the expansion of our reach has entered the space outside of earth, we thought it would be an appropriate time to begin thinking about the future. At the rate that technology is advancing, the move to other planets might not be as far away as we might think. And I don’t know about you, but I would sure like to make an educated decision about which planet I want to end up one… this needs to be a very calculated decision, because who wants to end up on a planet that they despise? (I have a feeling that it would be much harder to move to another planet than it would be to move houses here on Earth). So, in order to help us with this decision, we took some quizzes that would help us determine which planet we should call home and actually live one.
To hear the entire process that led to our ideal planetary destinations, go ahead and listen to the full Episode 3 on your favorite podcasting app (or right here on our website under the Podcast Episodes tab!). Once you know which planet you can find us on (or at least which one of two planets because we got conflicting answers from the two different quizzes we took), take the quizzes below and see where you should consider packing your bags for:
National Geographic’s Which Planet Should You Call Home?
Buzzfeed’s Which Planet Should You Actually Live On?
Let us know in the comments if you will be joining either of us or which planet you will be heading too! You can listen to the full episode now right here on the website or listen on your favorite podcast app: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, TuneIn, or Google Play.
